Advanced Understanding of Potential Childhood Behaviors

Enroll in Live Web-based Training Email Us Today

It is helpful when parents or caregivers have some advance understanding of potential childhood behaviors they may experience with their children. Proactively addressing such emotions as fear, shyness, frustration, jealousy, and sadness and the behaviors associated with these feelings, while engaged in an enjoyable reading or playful experience, can have many positive effects on children.

Self-confidence and self-esteem are corner stones of our children’s daily and future successes in learning about life. The process of building our children’s self-confidence and self-esteem should begin from day one.  These benefits will continue throughout life. The suggestions presented in this website provide helpful insights into important child development considerations.  You will be provided with suggestions to enable you to more effectively communicate with your children.  The ideas within should be considered helpful and not a complete “know all, end all” list of positive actions.

As parents and caregivers, you enhance your preschool child's development in countless ways, the most important of which is conveying your love and being affectionate. You guide your children through the challenges of this extremely important developmental time of life. The time you spend talking and reading to them, providing opportunities for play, pretending with them, showing them how to get dressed or use the toilet, and setting boundaries and limits to their behavior creates a foundation for their future happiness, success and enjoyment of life’s wonders.

Cognitive Development

The development of your child’s mind (cognitive development) is important. Watch a young child with a new toy. At first, the child will hit it, throw it, bang on it, and maybe even bite it. The child is learning through his senses how the toy looks, feels and even tastes. After a short time, the child will learn about some unique uses for this toy. New knowledge becomes part of what the child has already learned.

Around 2 years old, children are able to use symbols, objects, gestures or words to stand for something. With the ability to use language, children are able to think of past and future events. The physical and mental advancements children accomplish from infancy through early childhood are remarkable. Parents and caregivers have the opportunity to further enhance this important development.

 Benefits of reading to children

Reading is beneficial for children.  When reading to them, you are providing a basis for language concepts and building a foundation for future vocabulary. The earlier you start reading to children, the better. Children understand much more than they are able to express. When you read, even to infants, they begin to pick up a lot of information about their world. Reading is a nurturing activity. Reading helps children bond with you.

Benefits of reading to caregiver

Reading to children allows you to spend time with them on their terms. You will begin to identify their personality traits and communication styles. You gain personal satisfaction through observing the enlightenment you provide for them. Understand that the time spent reading with children helps form the foundation for a better life. Putting this in perspective enriches both the caregiver and child alike. Reading allows you to develop a close bond with your children.
